INDIANAPOLIS — David R. Hurd, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016. David was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Longtown, Ohio, to the late Theophilus and Gladys Hurd.
David was a graduate of Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, and served in the US Army.
David retired in 1996 from the Chrysler Foundry in Indianapolis as a controller. Prior, he worked as an accountant at ALCOA in Richmond. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Mu Honorary Fraternity and served as a mentor to Junior Achievement.
David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara; children, Monica M. (Randall) Johnson, Valerie R. Washington, Patrick D. (Sabrina) Hurd and Joe Washington; grandchildren, Alexandria, Ashlynn, Lourdes and Jaslyn; sisters, Elizabeth Olinger, Edith Perkins and Gloria Buckingham; brothers, Richard, Dean, Frank and Ralph Hurd.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Joshua Randall Johnson and his brother, Don Hurd.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Flanner and Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Conner Suite, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday.
