Low-impact Aqua Aerobics at Arcanum Pool will start this Wednesday at 11 a.m. Classes will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the summer. Cost is $45 (Senior Citizen Pool Pass). Pool passes are available at the pool and village offices. The pool is also available for rental (three hours) for $150; for more information please contact the Village Office at 692-8500 or the Pool office at 692-8230.

The Coffee and Conversation Summer Series will begin this Saturday morning at the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society at 10 a.m. with Earlene Morris. She will share about her life living in the Gordon area where she and her husband raised their family, worked a farm, ran the grocery store and she was post master of the Gordon Post Office. Gordon was a busy village at that time. Coming on July 11 will be Rick Hunt and Sue Besecker Hunt, children of Lloyd and Myrna Hunt, about growing up in Arcanum in the ’50s and ’60s. On Aug. 8, Dave Gray will share memories of his grandfather, Arley, and father, Bud. Each of the hosts have great memories of people you know, part of the fun is sharing your stories as well. Come enjoy some coffee and fellowship.

Mark your calendar for the annual Gordon United Methodist Church Ice Cream Social for their famous homemade, hand-cranked ice cream on June 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. They offer seven different flavors – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon, pineapple, peanut butter and peach. Besides their delicious ice cream, they offer grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, shredded chicken sandwiches, home-made potato salad, baked beans, pies, and cakes. Gordon UMC is located at 311 East Street in the village of Gordon on State Route 722, just four miles west of State Route 49 in southeastern Darke County.

Kennedy Vineyard located just outside of Castine on Ohio 722 will be hosting a benefit for Justin Troutwine, “Jammin for Justin” cookout on July 11. More details to come soon!

The Arcanum Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for the summer. Be sure to stop by for some fresh produce and check out all the vendors located at Veteran’s Park next to the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society on West George Street.

Arcanum School construction progress update -Masonry Demolition is to begin on the North Side (Elementary) of the building during the first week of June weather permitting. The playground may not be accessible during this time. The roof demolition is to begin the week of June 8 on the high school gymnasium. The gym will not be available during this time (approximately three weeks). For questions about scheduled athletic events contact the appropriate coach or Athletic Director Brian Sprada. Please also note that the walking path will not be open on the back side of the building due to construction equipment and supplies.

Congratulations to AHS 2015 graduate and Valedictorian Brandon Fourman, who recently was named Darke County’s Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award Winner! Ohio’s county superintendents started the initiative in 1989 as a way to recognize outstanding senior scholars from across the state. Brandon will receive his award at the Franklin B. Walter Awards Luncheon held on April 15, 2015 at the Conference Center at Double Tree Columbus/Worthington.

Congratulations to Erica Zimmer as she qualified for the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships last weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Erica finished 2nd in the shot put at the Regional Championships in Troy. Erica competed Friday, June 5th at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.
