SPRINGBORO — William David Riegel, Springboro, Ohio and formerly of Greenville, Ohio, died March 21, 2017, of heart disease. Bill Riegel was born June 23, 1941, in Piqua, Ohio, to Frieda and Ersel Riegel, both deceased.
Mr. Riegel spent the first part of his career in the automotive industries as a parts salesperson, and vocational heavy diesel instructor at MCJVS. The second part of his career, he was the superintendent at the Greenville Union Cemetery and the superintendent and general manager of The United Jewish Cemeteries in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Bill Riegel committed many hours to community work serving as chairperson of the Springboro Tree Authority. He was also a woodworker, sharing this love with many young people in the community. His biggest commitment of time was to his two parish churches: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville, Ohio, and St. Francis Episcopal Church in Springboro, Ohio. He was a lay reader, chalice bearer, acolyte trainer, Boy Scout Liaison, and Vestry member. Most recently, he was the senior warden at St. Francis, Springboro providing day to day support for the parish while without clergy.
Bill will be remembered most for his love and care for his family. Some of his happiest times were ones spent wrestling with a grandchild, camping with his son, visiting the Air Force museum with a grandson, or fixing a new recipe for his wife.
Bill was married for 56 years to his high school sweetheart, Peggy Haag Riegel, and they have two children, Sheryl Riegel, Mississippi, and David Riegel, South Carolin
Bill and Peggy have six grandchildren Will Wood, Brittany Wood, Margaret Youngquist, Quinton Youngquist, Morgan Riegel, and Nathan Riegel. In addition, there are five great-grandchildren, William Wood, Kizzy Wood, Wesley Wood, Daisy Wood and Jayden Riegel. Mr. Riegel is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Kenneth Gross. In addition, he leaves one brother-in-law, Ray Haag, and a brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Lynn Hartzell and many nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, Mr. Riegel will be cremated. The Eucharistic Celebration Service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 225 North Main Street, Springboro, Ohio, on Saturday at 11 am. The Rev Dr John Paddock will be the celebrant. The family will greet friends before the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the church library.
