What a break! The weather pattern turned just before our Miami Valley as the snow and ice storms pushed northward up the area of our Eastern United States. Of course lots of winter days stretch ahead. Keep the shovels and salt ready.
It has been a good time to catch up on movies we missed last year or books we have wanted to read. The cold is bitter and staying inside is a welcome idea. I also caught up on communications. Texting is fine but sometimes a longer conversation keeps the ties with friends and family.
On a recent week end Tri-Village hosted its sixth annual powerlifting event. The girls were third overall in a roster of six teams that included the home school, Bluffton, Northeastern, Bradford, Northwestern, and Kenton Ridge. Congratulations to Ashley Penny who took first place in the 9th-10th grade division, unlimited weight class. Also congratulations to Seth Earls who placed first in the l1th- 12th grade boys division, unlimited weight class. The same listed teams had male entrants but also included neighboring Arcanum.
Other participants on the Tri-Village teams: Girls-Katherine Banis, Natasha Napier, Tabitha Watern, Courtney Banis, Madison Taylor, Holly Back, Cassidy Ditty, Lauren Banis, Marissa Roark and Brienna Dunlop; Boys-Tyler Bragg, Stevenson Harding, Ian Bailey, Nick Napier, Dagan White, Jackson Plush, Trevor Mote, Charlie Bailey, Dillon Holsapple, Dalton Barga, Brent Helman, Kirk Bradley, Aaron Stewart, Giego Garcia, Nick Varvel and Foster Brown. These students work hard at the sport. Also congratulations to Arcanum, placing second as a team in the boys lifting.
The Patriot basketball teams continue to thrill the fans by winning and receiving state recognition. The boys are second behind Van Wert Lincolnview. The Lady Patriots are in fourth place in the state rankings. Congratulations to both teams.
Marge Middleton celebrated her 90th birthday recently. Her family gathered to enjoy her special day. There was an open house for friends. Happy birthday Marge!.
Coming up: an early release from school on Feb. 10. There will be no school on Feb. 15. You can plan ahead for teacher conferences. The days are Feb. 23 and 25. This is the time to meet your child’s teacher/teachers. It is scheduled from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Call the school to schedule a time.
Remember to welcome Scott George to the Community Civic Center on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30. The Tri-Village graduate is a candidate for the congressional district left vacant when John Boehner resigned.
The Sweetheart Supper is coming at the Legion. This valentine meal will be served on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and buttered corn are the main menu items and add fruit cocktail and coffee. This is only $8 and you can order carry out. The next chicken supper is Feb. 6 with serving lines opened at 5 p.m.
Continue saving your plastic lids and caps. The collection will be used in a recycling program that will result in memorial benches to be placed at the school. These can be plastic med bottles, lids from cottage cheese, yogurt and coffee and twist on caps from medicine, drink bottles and milk jugs. Flip top lids and large twist on lids from softener and detergent bottles can be used. Clean it up and be sure it is free of metal. The benches will honor Susie Midlam and Mitch McCabe. Drop off points: the Tri-Village office, New Madison Public Library, New Madison Mini Mart and Tri-Village Rescue Squad. The drive continues until spring.
