RUSSIA – Arcanum took a fourth quarter lead but couldn’t hold on to it, losing 56-45 to the Russia boys basketball team on Saturday.
Arcanum trailed Russia by just one point, 15-14, through one quarter. Carter Gray led the Trojans with five points in the period while Cole Tebhe led the Raiders with seven.
Both teams sank 3-pointers in the second quarter, but Russia was able to push its lead to four points, 26-22. Evan Atchley and Devin Burns led Arcanum with three points each in the period, and Drew Sherman led Russia with six.
Arcanum cuts its deficit to a single point with 5:30 left in the third quarter before Russia pushed its lead back to five with 2:07 remaining. Wade Meeks led Arcanum with six in the quarter while Daniel Kearns led Russia with four.
In the fourth quarter Arcanum took the lead with 6:19 left to play. However, the Trojans don’t hang onto the lead for very long.
Tebhe hit a shot to put Russia back up by one. Soon after that Sherman sank a pair of free throws to put the Raiders up three.
Arcanum tied the game on a Meeks basket with 3:49 left to play. Russia regained the lead with a basket and increased its advantage to six with four free throws.
Arcanum continued to foul down the stretch in an attempt to get back in the game, and Russia increased its margin of victory to 11 points, 56-45.
Meeks led Arcanum with 14 points in the game. Also for the Trojans, Evan Atchley scored 11, Devin Burns scored eight, Carter Gray scored eight, Alec Atchley scored two, and Brandon Kinney scored two.
