Elevator almost razed

NEW WESTON – Demolition is underway at Mercer County Landmark’s elevator in New Weston. Work got started there Monday, continued on Tuesday with elevator employees getting equipment out with the conclusion expected whenever the weather gets better.

“They got most of it done,” said Manager Buck Siefring.

The building was used for feed grinding until it went out of service recently. Dan Ross of Fort Recovery is doing the demolition and will recycle all the wood, will send the metal to a salvage yard and will make gravel with the cement. The space, when the building is completely razed, may become a shop at some future point so that work can be done on equipment in it.

It is believed the building has been there at least since 1860.
