UNION CITY, Ohio —Union City (Ohio) Police officers have identified the suspects and arrested one allegedly involved in a burglary at a local flower shop.

On June 11, officers responded to Jo’s Corner Florist, 313 N. Columbia St., on a burglary that had occurred overnight. Officers learned that approximately $2,000 in cash and change had been stolen from the business. The scene was processed and evidence was collected, including possible fingerprints and DNA samples.

During the investigation, investigators were able to locate video images near the business which depicted at least two white male subjects running from the area. Those images were posted on social media in hopes of identifying the subjects involved. Within hours, investigators had received information from citizens identifying several possible suspects.

Investigators began interviewing individuals identified from the photographs. During these interviews, investigators received a full confession from one of the subjects involved in the burglary. Investigators also learned that two other subjects had committed the burglary, for a total of three. Investigators also learned that as many as six people were involved in planning the burglary.

Tyler Philpot, 20, Union City, Indiana, was arrested and charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. Charges have been filed with the Randolph County Prosecutors Office and more arrests are expected.

Chief Wells said, “We attribute the success of this case to the hard work and training of the officers involved, as well as a supportive community who provided information key to identifying people involved.”
