VERSAILLES — Jenna Meyer of Vandalia was hired to fill the vacant treasurer’s seat for the Versailles Exempted Village Schools at the board of education meeting recently.

She started Wednesday and will serve for a term of two years.

“I’m happy to be here,” she said. “I’m excited.”

She is a 2001 graduate of Northmont High School and earned business degrees from Sinclair Community College and DeVry University in business administration with a concentration on accounting.

“I’ve always wanted to be a school treasurer,” Meyer said. “Now, it’s just learning the different districts.”

Her first job out of college was as assistant treasurer for Springfield Clark Career Technical Center for five years and was then assistant treasurer for Northmont School, which is smaller than Versailles School, for three years before coming to Versailles.

She and husband of nearly a year, Matt, could possibly be making the move to Versailles.

“It’s a great community,” she said. “I love the area. I have family in the area. I’m looking forward to learning the community and meeting with businesses, the school, the people and being part of it.”

Her grandfather, Tom Whitton, lives in Greenville, and her brother, John, lives in Bradford with mate and two sons.

The daughter of Tom Whitton Jr. and Debbie Gossett, each of Englewood, Meyer said her husband works for a Ford dealership as a service adviser.

She said she enjoys gardening and walking her dog in her spare time.

The Versailles board, at the same meeting that Meyer was hired, terminate the contract with Bob Hoover as interim treasurer effective July 1, and then employed him as a consultant to assist with the new treasurer during the transitioning period and to be paid $50 per hour effective July 1.

Meyer said she has already met with Hoover and plans to meet with him some more this coming week.

Meyer’s assistant treasurer is Jackie Kremer.
