ARCANUM – The Arcanum High School cheerleaders delivered hand-made blankets to patients at Dayton Children’s Hospital last week.
It was the second year that the Arcanum cheerleaders including Alexis Kreusch, Kalista Harleman, Sam Ewing, Mckenna Cates, Paige Kreusch, Madison Goubeaux, Madison O’Daniel, Madison Baker, Maegann Hackworth, Lauren Lumpkin, Cami Heninger, Kayla Riegle, Makayla Bailey and Hailie Newsome made the blankets and brought them to the hospital.
“I want to make them the best cheerleaders they can be, but I also want to make them the best people they can be,” Arcanum cheerleading coach Cherie Goubeaux said.
The cheerleaders made 17 fleece blankets during a practice on July 27 and two days later visited the hospital to deliver them. They spent a couple hours at the hospital delivering the blankets, wishing the patients well and doing a couple cheers for the kids.
“I know that every single girl got something out of it and that they really appreciate being able to see the kids and make the blankets,” Coach Goubeaux said.
The blankets were given to some kids who are still in cribs and others who are up to 16 years old. One woman whose child received a blanket last year told Coach Goubeaux that they still have it and appreciate the cheerleaders’ efforts.
“For something good to happen was a positive experience for them,” the coach said.
The Arcanum cheerleaders definitely will continue their blanket community service project in the future, Coach Goubeaux said.
“They got so much out of it,” she said.
