Happy 85th Birthday Avon Roberts! Avon celebrated her birthday on August 1st with a surprise party given by her children at the home of son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Kim Roberts. Avon retired from the Arcanum Public Library. She and her late husband Wendell have six children, Mike (Jeanne) Roberts, Tony (Roberta) Roberts, Dave (Kim) Roberts, Jeff (Lin) Roberts, Linda (Larry) Snyder, and Jason (Linda) Roberts. Most of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also in attendance for a wonderful evening filled with lots of fellowship, good eats, and friends.

The Arcanum High School cheerleaders visited the Children’s Hospital in Dayton. They spent the days leading up to their visit making blankets for the children. They had a chance to deliver the blankets and spend some time with the children. Thank you Coach Goubeaux and the cheerleaders for your time and effort spent helping others.

It’s hard to believe it is August already and school will be starting soon! Just a reminder the Arcanum-Butler Local School District will be hosting its Open House on Monday, August 31 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. That same evening, the Middle School will hold their 5th-Grade Orientation from 6:30 – 7 p.m. in the High School Gymnasium. The Arcanum Band was at Band Camp last week at Bluffton College preparing for the upcoming Marching Band Season. One of the highlights of the Darke County Fair is the High School Band Music Extravaganza. Be sure to check them out if you are a music buff or just want to support the local hometown kids. As always the Arcanum A# Club will have their food tent at The Great Darke County Fair; be sure to stop by and support our youth while you are at the fair!

The Darke County Fair is nearly here! Can you believe another summer is almost over? Do you have your favorites already in a list – places you must visit and food you must try while you are at the fairgrounds? The rituals of the end of summer are upon us!
