Greenville girls tennis picks up 1st win of season

GREENVILLE – The Greenville girls tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday, defeating Wayne 5-0.

In that match Greenville’s Mallory Rich led Sidney Bailey 6-5 in first singles before the Wayne player withdrew due to illness. In second singles the Lady Wave’s Molly Hunt swept Emily Miller 6-0, 6-0. In third singles the Wave’s Neeps Kaur beat Kristen Hooker 6-1 6-4.

In first doubles Greenville’s duo of Anna Mangas and Anja Mertel swept Lauren Smith and Ameera Salah 6-0, 6-0. In second doubles the Lady Wave’s Marabelle Lance and Larisa Schmitmeyer beat Emilee Sykes and Lyann Trinh 6-0, 6-1.

In junior varsity action Hannah Gulley and Casey Malott won a doubles match against Wayne.

The Greenville girls tennis team also lost a pair of matches.

Greenville lost 4-1 to Celina on Wednesday.

Greenville’s lone win of the match came at first doubles where Anna Mangas and Anja Mertel and beat Nicole Elston and Kaeleah Fisher 7-5 6-3. In second doubles the Lady Wave’s Hannah Gulley and Larisa Schmitmeyer lost 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 to Breanna Jenkins and Miranda Rable.

In first singles Greenville’s Mallory Rich lost 6-0, 6-1 to Celina’s Maddy Cline. In second singles Molly Hunt lost 6-3, 6-0 to Ally Harris. In the third singles match Neeps Kaur lost 6-3, 6-1 to Cami Mohler.

In junior varsity action the duos of Marabelle Lance and Casey Malott plus Katie Baughman and Amber Hutt won against Celina.

On Friday the Greenville girls tennis team lost 4-1 to St. Marys.

Greenville’s one win came at third singles where Neeps Kaur beat Bailey Rust 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. In first singles Molly Hunt lost 6-0, 6-0 to Clare Caywood. In second singles Mallory Rich lost 6-3, 7-5 to Hannah Fever.

In first doubles Anna Mangas and Anja Mertel lost 7-6, 6-2 to Jennifer Lauth and Alyssa Finley. In second doubles Marabelle Lance and Larisa Schmitmeyer lost 6-2, 6-2 to Jenna Perry and Rachel Moeller.

Casey Malott and Amber Hutt both won junior varsity doubles matches vs. St. Marys.

Greenville is now 1-3 on the season.
