ARCANUM – The Arcanum volleyball team took home the win with a stunning amount of teamwork Thursday evening against Bradford.
Finishing the game within the first three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-18, Arcanum was able to come out on top from the beginning for a conference win.
The game could have gone either way at the start, with the scores going back and forth in the first set and good defense on both ends it was anyone’s game. But the Trojans proved they were there to take home the win by dominating the court after they got the Cross County Conference win.
“We were glad to get the win together” Arcanum’s Emily Miller said. “Although it was not near our best play, we were able to recover after swapping points at the beginning to gain the lead. There were some really strong hits and jump serves, which helped us to gain the momentum and get excited about the game. It was really cool that the crowd got excited too because there are a lot of games when it seems to be too quiet in the gym. We love a loud crowd! There is still so much to improve on this year, and we will be working hard to do so!”
Arcanum maintained the lead all the way throughout the second set and finished with another win of 25-15. The Trojans continued their streak into the third and final set of the night. Only one minute into the last match, and Arcanum was leading 13-7. Bradford continued to put up a fight but was not able to bring a stop to Arcanum’s major head start into the third set.
“As a team I think we came out a little flat in the first set, but once we got the first win the team lit up,” Arcanum’s Shelby Howard said. “We had very few mistakes tonight, a few missed serves here and there, but I think we played well, and it was a good conference win.”
Arcanum sustained defense and was able to keep the lead into end the third set with a score of 25-18 and in turn winning the conference match with a final score of 3-0.
