Mums everywhere and pulling dried vines from gardens are sure indicators of fall knocking on the door. Time for festivals and harvest dinners.

Here the School Fair will be held Oct. 3 and 4. In neighboring Preble County, the Pork Festival is a lively annual event the third weekend of September. Remember the garage sales here in New Madison. Shoppers will be welcome Sept. 17-19.

At the Universalist Church there will be a familiar project throughout September. Children Without is an organization to help children in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. With every $250 donation, there is matching of funds from the Rotary Club. Each $500 scholarship then provides a year’s education. The funds also are used basic needs of the children, like clean water and food. The local church has provided assistance since 2007. Dave and Teresa Hafenbrack will be guests at the Universalist Church on Sept. 27 and present information and photos of a 2015 trip to Mexico. They were able to award scholarships and help with humanitarian efforts. Besides members, others can assist with a check to Margaret Schryver, 6318 Gander Road East, Dayton.

A recent article on Clayton Murphy gave the latest adventure of the Tri-Village graduate and his continuing success at the highest levels of track. Before returning to classwork at the University of Akron, he competed at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships in Beijing, China. Third in his heat of the 800-meter race, he qualified for the semi finals. He finished sixth in the semi finals and with a time of 1:46.28 he was listed as the 12th fastest in the world. Congratulations!

The American Legion has resumed Friday Nite Euchre Parties. They begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public.
