RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ind. — A Florida woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a Greenville man has been incarcerated for drunk driving following a two-vehicle collision in Randolph County Saturday afternoon.

Approximately 1:20 p.m., Randolph County Communications received a 911 call on an accident on U.S. 27 south of 300 south.

The initial investigation, along with witness statements, revealed the 2015 Toyota driven by Ronnie G. Jones, 71, of Clearwater Beach, Florida, was northbound on U.S. 27, and Cole L. Sells, 24, of Greenville, Ohio, was southbound driving a 1998 Ford Ranger.

The vehicle driven by Sells was completely left-of-center, traveling in the northbound lane. Jones tried to avoid a head-on collision with the Sells vehicle by veering to the southbound shoulder, but the Sells vehicle veered back across and into the southbound lane, striking the Toyota’s passenger side front.

The passenger in the Toyota, Rita M. Jones, 72, also of Clearwater Beach, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers were taken to St. Vincent’s Randolph with non-life-threatening injuries.

Blood alcohol tests were performed on both drivers. Jones tested negative. Sells tested at 0.23 blood alcohol concentration.

Sells was then transported to Randolph County Jail where he was incarcerated for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing a death, a fourth-degree felony. He was jailed on $12,000 bond.

Suspected of drunk driving
