VANDALIA — The Vandalia-Butler Aviator soccer team made quick work of the visiting Green Wave of Greenville Tuesday night by a score of 6-1.

The win was the seventh straight for the Aviators, who improved to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference North division. Greenville fell to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

“Greenville always gives us a different challenge,” Butler head coach Steve Doring said. “They are physical, they never give up, they are committed to the cause, and it’s always a challenge when we play them. It was just a couple years ago they came to our field and beat us 5-1. We never take anyone lightly in the GWOC.”

Butler scored first in the 16th minute as Jack Spoltman took an assist by Nathan Weber to give the Aviators a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, it was Weber on an assist by Tyler Sutter that lifted Butler to a 2-0 advantage.

Greenville answered quickly with a goal by Tani Mancillas in the 18th minute to cut the Aviator lead in half, but that was the end of the scoring for the Green Wave.

Zach Burgmeier found the net on a penalty kick in the 30th minute and Spoltman struck again in the 35th minute and the Aviators led 4-1 at the half.

Burgmeier got the assist on Butler’s fifth goal off the foot of Terrance Engle and Ben Naas closed out the scoring for the Aviators.

Greenville’s Tani Mancillas (10) and Dalton Walls (2) defend Butler’s Ian Grove Tuesday evening. Mancillas scored Greenville’s only goal in a 6-1 loss to the Aviators.
