PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe girls soccer team dominated Yellow Springs on Saturday, defeating the Bulldogs 7-0.
“The kids stayed loose and played pretty good,” Franklin Monroe girls soccer coach Scott Howell said. “We’re playing a team with 11 kids, but to be honest with you they never once quit, and they stayed positive. Hats off to Yellow Springs for that.
“The kids played well. Got a lot of minutes for all the young ones. Got to move some kids around, try some kids at goalie. You know we were out there having fun.”
Franklin Monroe controlled the game throughout with four goals in the first half and three in the second half.
Bryanna Diceanu led the way with three goals and an assist. It was her second hat trick in the past eight days as she also scored three goals against Greenville a week earlier.
Jessica Hinshaw scored two goals for the Jets while Shelby Bowser and Beth Kirkpatrick both scored one. Lilee Fisher added two assists.
Four Franklin Monroe goalkeepers combined for the shutout.
“Playing pretty well,” Howell said. “Still got lots of improvement needed but we’re coming. Slowly but surely we’re starting to do a lot of the things right, especially in practice … is where we were lacking before. And we’re playing with some hearts. Some kids were getting after it.”
Franklin Monroe improved to 4-6-1 with Saturday’s win, which was a good confidence booster for the Lady Jets.
“You need at least two a year,” Howell said of the big win. “We’ve been on the other side of it this year so it absolutely helps. You don’t want too many of them.”
