UPDATE: Saturday crash claims second life

DARKE COUNTY – On Monday, the Montgomery County Coroners Office notified the Darke County Sheriff’s Office that a second person involved in Saturday’s fatal crash had succumbed to his injuries at 8:57 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital.

Ronald L. Marlatt, 65, Greenville was the front seat passenger in the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt.

It was reported that Marlatt was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. This accident still remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

DARKE COUNTY – The driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt involved in the fatal accident Saturday is identified as David L. Peck, 50, Greenville, Ohio. Passengers in the vehicle were identified to be Ronald L. Marlatt, 65, Greenville, Ohio; Samantha J. Thomas, 20, Greenville, Ohio; William A. Taylor, 25, Arcanum, Ohio and Christopher S. Taylor, 24, Arcanum, Ohio.

All occupants of the vehicle are currently being treated at Miami Valley Hospital for their injuries. The passenger’s conditions were reported as follows:

David L. Peck – Undetermined

Ronald L. Marlatt – Undetermined

Christopher S. Taylor – Serious

William A. Taylor – Fair

Samantha J. Thomas – Fair

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and the Darke County Coroner’s Office.

DARKE COUNTY — A Pitsburg woman died at the scene of a two-car crash on Arcanum-Bear’s Mill Road Saturday afternoon.

On Oct. 3, at approximately 4:13 p.m., Darke County Deputies, Darke County Coroner’s Office, Arcanum Police Department, Arcanum Fire, Arcanum Rescue, Gettysburg Rescue, Greenville Township Rescue, Tri-Village Rescue, Union Township Rescue and Spirit Medical Transport were dispatched to the 4000 block of Arcanum-Bear’s Mill Road in reference to a two-vehicle injury accident with entrapment.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 1996 Buick Park Avenue driven by a female was traveling north and a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by a male with one female and three male passengers was traveling south. The Buick was left of the center line traveling into the path of the Chevrolet. The Buick struck the Chevrolet head on.

Five people were injured and were transported to Miami Valley Hospital and Wayne Health Care Center for treatment.

The driver of the Buick was identified as Darlene J. Cook, 76, of Pitsburg, Ohio. She succumbed to injuries at the scene.

At least one of the people in the Chevrolet was reportedly “critically injured,” and two were entrapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. Their identities and conditions have not yet been released.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office
