Ansonia volleyball team sweeps Tri-County North

ANSONIA – The Ansonia Tiger volleyball team defeated Tri-County North Thursday evening in front of a raucous crowd including the student section celebrating Homecoming week.

The Ansonia boys were decked out in body paint and helped lift the Lady Tigers to a decisive victory in straight sets, 25-7, 25-16, 25-4.

The Ansonia hitters took advantage of a great night of passing and combined for 31 kills on the evening. Lydia Sink led the team with 21 kills while Brooke Neal added five, Haley Wampler two and Jailyn Thwaits and Madison Young one each. Overall, it was the best team attacking percentage of the year.

Sink also added six blocks on the evening and five aces. Bailey Stammen led the team with 19 sets, and Thwaits took over when Stammen couldn’t and added three assists.

The Tigers combined for 14 aces on the evening and 29 digs. Wampler led the team in serve receiving and digs with 10.

Ansonia plays Newton and Fairlawn in a tri-match on Saturday.
