ANSONIA — The Ansonia Volunteer Fire Department will welcome such characters as witches, goblins, ghosts, clowns, movie/television characters and entertainment/athletic personalities when it hosts its 33rd annual chili supper and Halloween parade on Oct. 29.

The chili supper, eat in or carry out, starts at 5 p.m. and will last while the soup lasts. In addition to the chili, there will be sandwiches and desserts and well as beverages.

Parade line-up is at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lots of the post office and Ansonia Auto Parts, with the parade beginning at 7. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes by a panel of judges.

The annual raffle will follow the parade, with tickets available now. Featured prizes include a whole hog, cash, gift certificates and concert tickets. See any firefighter for the purchase of those tickets or call the Ansonia Fire Department and leave a message at 937-337-1811. Winners do no need to be present to win.

Awards will be given to the top three decorated houses (outside displays only) within the Ansonia Fire District. Contact the fire department by turning in the forms, which contains names, addresses and phone numbers of entrants in the contest. This has to be dropped off to firefighters or at the Ansonia City Building by this Thursday.

“All proceeds will support the fire department to ensure it can continue to provide the best possible service to the community,” organizers said. “Support your local fire department and come out for a fun-filled family evening while enjoying great food, awesome prizes, costumes and more.”
