PITSBURG – Franklin Monroe, who had advanced to the second round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III soccer tournament with a first-round win over Southeastern, was hosting fellow Cross County Conference foe Tri-County North on Saturday.
The two teams had met back on Oct. 15 in a game the Jets won 7-0.
It was a rainy and windy night, but it wasn’t enough to help the Panthers slow down Franklin Monroe.
Franklin Monroe scored 13 times by spreading the wealth to 11 different players in a complete team win over Tri-County North, ending the Panthers’ season.
The Jets got on the scoreboard with nearly no time coming off the clock by CCC Player of the Year Jake Shellabarger.
Senior Britt Bowlin followed that up a short time later with a second goal.
After Shellabarger was pushed to the ground in the box it set-up a free penalty kick that was no match for the keeper as Shellabarger drove it by him into the back of the net, and the Jets went up 3-0.
Franklin Monroe got back-to-back goals from the brother duo Cade and Cody McGlinch to go up 5-0, and then Kyle Ressler scored just before half ended to give FM a 6-0 advantage.
Franklin Monroe nearly doubled its goal output over the previous meeting, scoring seven more times in the second half with two goals by Bryce Robison and one each by Cody Coppess, Luke Booher, Colby Chrisman, Hudson Nestor and Bailey Wyan.
The win sets up another rematch this time with Troy Christian, who was a 5-0 winner over Springfield Catholic Central.
In the previous meeting with Troy Christian (11-6-1), the Jets pulled out a close one 2-1.
Franklin Monroe improves to 14-4 and is looking to capture its fifth straight sectional title.
The game will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sidney High School.
