GREENVILLE — A Greenville man was taken into custody Friday afternoon and charged with the robbery of the Family Dollar Store on Martin Street that occurred Wednesday.

Shayne Coleman Rayburn, 24, of Greenville, was arrested at the traffic circle in Greenville Friday. He is being held in the Darke County jail charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony, with no bond. Rayburn also is being held on a warrant out of Darke County for criminal trespass, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, and theft without consent, a first-degree misdemeanor. Rayburn reportedly has a warrant out of Preble County for vehicle theft.

Early reports stated that no weapon was shown, but an update indicated that the robbery was committed at gunpoint.

The robbery occurred Wednesday just before 5:30 p.m., when a man described as wearing a gray hooded sweeatshirt, jeans and a red sock hat demanded cash from the store clerk. The clerk and another employee opened the cash drawer, and the suspect took the money and fled on foot.

Responding officers located the gray sweatshirt in a Rumpke bin near the scene.
