I don’t know about you … but I have experienced a few times in my life when I wondered if I really mattered to God. I felt so insignificant and was pretty sure that my problems and concerns would seem petty to Him.
Have you ever been down this path? If you have, then guess what? You and I are not the only ones.
You may recall the story in the New Testament when a man by the name of Jairus comes to Jesus. Jairus is the president of the Jewish synagogue and one pretty powerful dude in the town of Capernaum. There is no doubt about it … Jairus is a V.I.P.! The paparazzi follow him everywhere he goes!
But one day Jairus’ daughter becomes deathly ill and he immediately rushes to find Jesus and beg Him to come and heal his precious little girl.
Jesus gets up to go with this V.I.P. – – but something happens along the way between where He was and where He was going … a woman who had suffered from internal bleeding for twelve years somehow mustered the strength and the courage to work her way through the crowd and quietly touch the hem of Jesus’ coat.
After all … she didn’t want to bother Him.
She didn’t want to interrupt His agenda.
She certainly didn’t feel important — like the president of the synagogue.
And, my goodness, she was even considered unclean!
But in the midst of this flurry of activity … Jesus stops!!
He seeks out the person who touched Him and when He finds her He says to her … “Daughter, be encouraged! Your faith has made you well.” (Matthew 8:22 – NLT)
Immediately … the woman was completely healed!
This beautiful story from the Scriptures speaks loud and clear that – – WE DO MATTER TO GOD!!
We are significant!
We are not a burden to Him!
He desires to touch and heal our deepest hurt!
As Max Lucado writes … “We’re on the top of His ‘To Do’ list today!!”
Isn’t this truth incredible, awesome, thrilling and absolutely amazing?
We need not be fearful or afraid.
We need not allow our low self-esteem to over-rule our heart.
Reach out and touch the Savior!
YOU are not a bother to Him.
YOU are not interrupting His agenda.
YOU are very important in His eyes.
Make no mistake … YOU really do matter to God!
