Pet adoption event planned

GREENVILLE — Just in time for the holidays, local residents (and nonlocals, too) will have the opportunity to get some love and share some love with some furry friends. Bark Animal Rescue will host an adoption event and food drive at Darke County Pets and Supplies, 200 Martin St., Greenville, Dec. 5 from noon to 4 p.m.

The organization will be collecting pet food and supplies, including toys, treats, cat litter, bedding, dishes, medications and any other pet needs.

Dogs will be available for adoption for $100, which includes spaying or neutering, current shots, heartworm testing and the first month of heartworm prevention. Microchipping also is available for just $15 with no additional fees required for lifetime record maintenance.

“The service we use doesn’t operate on a subscription basis,” said Bark founder Carla Hill-Clark, “so there is no monthly or annual charge.”

Cats will be available for adoption for a $40 fee, which includes spaying or neutering and current shots.

Hill-Clark said Bark volunteers recently acquired four dogs that are in foster care after the sudden death of their owner. There also is a pit puppy who was ordered out by a landlord, as well as another pit who was rescued from a kill shelter and others.

The event will give potential pet owners the opportunity to meet the animal and apply for adoption. The process is usually finalized within the week.

Even those who are not in the market for a pet or cannot donate supplies are invited to stop by and show their support. There will be a bake sale, featuring homemade dog biscuits and people treats as well; vendors selling to support Bark Rescue; and raffle drawings for pet and holiday items and more. Donations of raffle prizes are always welcome.

Bark Animal Rescue Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization, so donations are tax-deductible. Volunteers are always needed for events and transportation of animals, as well as foster homes. For more information, contact Carla Hill-Clark at 937-423-9300.
