2 GWOC football teams, 3 MAC teams reach OHSAA state semifinals

COLUMBUS – Two teams from the Greater Western Ohio Conference and three teams from the Midwest Athletic Conference remain as the Ohio High School Athletic Association football playoffs reach the state semifinals.

Both of the GWOC’s remaining teams won in the third week of the OHSAA playoffs.

Wayne from the GWOC beat Hilliard Davidson 20-6 last week and now advances to play Colerain, who is coming off a 41-11 win against Elder. Wayne and Colerain will play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mason Dwire Field at Atrium Stadium for a spot in the Division I state championship game.

Trotwood-Madison from the GWOC beat Wapakoneta 33-3 in a regional championship game last week and now advances to play Toledo Central Catholic, who beat Benedictine in double overtime last week. Trotwood-Madison and Central Catholic will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sidney Memorial Stadium with a spot in the Division III state championship game on the line.

The MAC saw three of its four playoff-qualifying teams win regional championships last week with only Minster losing to fellow league member Fort Recovery.

Fort Recovery beat Minster 33-21 and now advances to play McComb, who beat Lucas 36-6, in the state semifinals. Fort Recovery and McComb will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lima Senior Spartan Stadium for a spot in the Division VII state championship game.

MAC member Coldwater beat Brookville 31-13 last week and now advances to play Wheelersburg, who beat Zane Trace, in the state semifinals. Coldwater and Wheelersburg will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Xenia Doug Adams Stadium with a spot in the Division V state championship game at stake.

MAC member Marion Local beat Mechanicsburg 9-7 last week to advance to the state semifinals against Tinora, who is coming off a 44-14 win against Van Buren. Marion Local and Tinora will play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wapakoneta Harmon Field for a spot in the Division VI state championship game.
