Eldora Speedway championship banquet set for Jan. 23 in Eldora Ballroom


ROSSBURG – The Eldora Speedway Championship Banquet is set for Jan. 23 in the Eldora Speedway Ballroom in Rossburg.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with opening remarks at 6:30 p.m. followed by the distribution of awards and more than $30,000 in championship money and awards. Matt Westfall won the Eldora Late Model championship while Travis Stemler took the Modified division. Rob Trent captured the Eldora stock car title.

The Sunoco American Late Model Series (ALMS) will join the ceremony with the presentation of their championship awards and point fund as well. Rusty Schlenk will take the stage as the ALMS champion.

Eldora owner Tony Stewart will present the championship hardware.

Tickets are available for $23 per person and will go on sale Dec. 14 by contacting the Eldora office at 937-338-3815 during normal business hours or online at www.EldoraSpeedway.com. The deadline for ordering tickets is Jan. 15.

In addition to the hardware and point fund distribution, numerous specialty awards will be distributed, including: Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Driver, Hard Luck Award, Best Appearing Car and the coveted Chick Hale Sportsman of the Year trophy.

Westfall, from Pleasant Hill, scored eight top-10 finishes in 11 Late Model races to take the crown by 26 points over Josh Rice. Westfall won the 2014 Eldora Modified championship.

Stemler scored two wins and seven top-10 finishes in nine Modified races to take the crown from Eldora fan favorite Jerry Bowersock. Stemler hails from Ionia, Michigan.

Rob Trent and Frank Paladino, both from Lima, each won two races and had six top-10s, but Trent faired just a bit better, winning the Eldora stock championship by three points. It was Trent’s third Eldora title.
