The Focus: Let the celebration begin!

My wife and I have some friends who adopted a little boy and little girl (brother and sister). This is something they had been praying for and working toward for months. When the paper work was finalized and it came time to get their children … they couldn’t wait to embrace their little gifts from heaven!

Now, can you imagine these parents, before they adopted their children, saying … “Well, we’re anxious to adopt little Jeannie and Johnny, but first we want to know a few things. Do they have a house to live in? Do they have any money for their future college expenses? Do they have a ride to school every morning? Do they have clothes to wear everyday? Can they prepare their own meals?”

I’m quite confident that any adoption agency would not stand for such talk. In fact, I’m absolutely certain their response would be … “Hold on! Wait a minute! You don’t understand something. You’re not adopting these children because of what they have … you adopt them because of what they need! They need a home. They need to cared for. They need loving parents.”

You know what? The same is true for God. He doesn’t ‘adopt’ us because of what we have. He doesn’t give us His name because of our wit or bank account or great personality. ‘Adoption’ is something we receive, not something we earn!

That’s why we’re preparing to celebrate Christmas!!

Recall the words from the New Testament book of Galatians 4 … “When the right time came, God sent His Son … to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that He could ADOPT us as His very own children. And now, you can call God your dear Father!”

I know our friends were extremely excited to adopt those two precious little children; BUT, it absolutely overwhelms me to realize that God – my heavenly Father – was even more excited to adopt ME as His very own son!

Hey … I’m a child of the King! And … you are a child of the King!

Let the Christmas celebration begin!!
