ARCANUM — Arcanum-Butler Local Schools hosted the third annual Senior Citizens Holiday Luncheon Wednesday afternoon in the school cafetorium.

At least 120 people attended the event, according to High School Principal Jason Stephan.

“This is our thank-you to them for supporting us and wishing them a merry Christmas,” said the principal who provided the welcome prior to the serving of the meal. “This is the biggest one we’ve had so far. The kids from elementary to high school get involved. It’s a lot of fun.”

In his welcome, Stephan introduced the teachers who organize this event, other school staff and board members in attendance.

Those who attended were then treated to chicken-noodle or vegetable soup, grilled cheese sandwich, dessert and beverage.

Entertainment was provided by the high school choir, high school band ensembles, fourth-grade choir, Matt Todd and Allison Moore. Musicians even greeted guests as they entered the school.

Mark Mills, who lives on Kilbourne Road, attended the event with his wife.

“We try to come to these. They are fabulous,” he said, adding in jest, “But we’re really too young to be here.”

“This is nice for the seniors,” said Nancy Keiser, who attended the lunch with husband Bill, but was unable to attend last year because of an appointment.

She introduced those sitting at her table and pointed out that her husband’s brother, Bob, also sitting there, had been a crossing guard at the school for a number of years.
