CELINA – Great news for beginning beekeepers and anyone wanting a refresher on beekeeping in our area! A “Beginning Beekeeping Class” will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richardson Bretz Memorial Building in Celina, Ohio.
Topics will include:
- Honey Bees and the Products From Their Hives
- Equipment Every Beekeeper Needs
- Assembling Your Frames
- Basic Biology and Nutrition
- Management of New Colonies in All Seasons
- Diseases and Pests of Honey Bees
- Varroa Mite Integrated Pest Management
- An opportunity to Network with Fellow Beekeepers
Dwight Wells, an OSBA Master Beekeeper instructor will be this year’s presenter. Wells is the current President of the West Central Ohio Beekeepers Association (WCOBA) and a founding member of the Heartland Honeybee Breeders Cooperative (HHBBC). His passions include promoting sustainable beekeeping, mentoring and educating beekeepers.
Coffee and Doughnuts will be provided.
Pre-registration is $40 which includes the book “Bee Essentials” by Dr. Larry Connors, a one year membership to Greater Grand Lake Beekeepers Association (GGLBA), and various literature and catalogues. Cost at the door (based on availability) will be $45.00.
