Huff files petition to run for Buchy’s position in House of Representatives

ANSONIA — Ed “Bear” Huff Jr., of Ansonia, is another local interested in seeking the 84th House district seat that will be vacated at the end of 2016 by Rep. Jim Buchy, who announced in September he will be retiring from the Ohio House of Representatives in effect January 2017.

Huff filed a petition to run for that office this week in Mercer County.

“I filed in Mercer County because it is the biggest of the districts,” Huff said. “Keith Faber is running for Buchy’s place, so it not going to be an easy race to win. The people have a choice now.”

The 84th House District encompasses Mercer as well as portions of Auglaize, Darke and Shelby counties.

Huff, a 1969 Ansonia High School graduate, is no stranger to legislation or legislators. He has learned about both through his work with the township associations.

He is a trustee for Brown Township, is president of Darke County Township Association and is a board director and secretary-treasurer of the Ohio Township Association.

Huff, son of Joan (Kimmel) Huff and the late Edward Huff, is a family man with children and grandchildren. His wife, Denise, is one of his biggest supporters he said.

“Denise and I talked several nights,” businessman Huff said. “It will be a lot of time and I will have to have a lot people helping us. I can’t do it by myself. I am so fortunate to have Denise. In her words, ‘People should have a choice to represent them and someone that will work for them.’ I’m so fortunate to have her supporting me.”
