Wooddells celebrate 65 years of marriage

TIPP CITY — James W.Wooddell and Iris L. Fahnestock were wed 65 years ago on Jan. 14, 1951, at Harris Creek Church of the Brethren in Bradford.

Residents of Tipp City, they are 1950 graduates of Bradford High School; Iris was salutatorian. Wooddell served as an Army Staff Sergeant in the Korean War. He is a retired business owner of his home improvement business in Troy. His wife worked for Selective Service and retired after 24 years of civil service at WPAFB; serving in the International Logistics.

They have three children, Dr. Scott Wooddell, senior pastor of Eastridge Park Christian Church of Mesquite, Texas; Julie Kihm of Tipp City, manager of food services at Tipp City High School, and Karen Younce of Tipp City, who works at Marriott University of Dayton as senior account executive. They have nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

They both have been faithful in serving in their local churches for 54 years. Serving in Troy Baptist Temple, he as a deacon and choir member; and she as lead pianist and choir pianist from 1963- 1989. From 1990- 2008, he served as trustee and music director and she was lead pianist and organist at Calvary Baptist in Troy. Currently they are members of Vandalia Baptist Temple since 2008.

An open house anniversary celebration will be Jan. 16, from 1-4 p.m. at Monroe Grange, 4729 Peters Road, Tipp City. The couple requests gifts be omitted.
