VERSAILLES – The Versailles boys basketball team beat Midwest Athletic Conference rival Marion Local 64-51 on Friday.
Marion Local took a 13-12 first quarter lead, but Versailles outscored the Flyers 16-9 in the second quarter to go up 28-22 at halftime. Marion cut Versailles’ lead to 46-44 in the third quarter before the Tigers outscored the Flyers 18-7 in the fourth quarter to win by 13.
Justin Ahrens led Versailles with a game-high 33 points. Also for the Tigers, Keaton McEldowney scored 13 points, Alex Wendel scored five, AJ Ahrens scored four, Brett McEldowney scored four, Connor Custenborder scored three, and Austin Knapke scored two.
Derek Albers and Nathan Bruns led Marion Local with 13 points each. Also for the Flyers, Tyler Mescher scored 11, Cole Griesdorn scored eight, Matt Kahlig scored three, and Ryan Thobe scored three.
Versailles improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the MAC with the win. Marion Local fell to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the MAC.
Versailles will play at Russia on Saturday.
