The Focus: Speeding through spiritual journey?

0

O.K. … imagine this scenario?

You are driving down the interstate … the speed limit is 70 mph, but you are cruising along at the sweet speed of 80 mph. Then, the unthinkable happens – – you z-o-o-m right past a State Highway Patrol car!

Immediately you feel a surge of adrenalin and your eyes dart to the rear-view mirror. Did he see you? Has the patrol car pulled onto the highway with the blue lights flashing?

Personally, this has never happened to me (yeah, right!) … but I have heard reports such as this from several of my friends!!

No doubt, this scene has probably happened to most of us!

Now … drivers are not supposed to speed. Even though you know this simple truth … seeing a patrol car probably makes you glance at your speedometer just to make sure that you’re within the legal speed limit. Whether you are speeding or not … you always hope the patrol car stays right where it is.

Does this remind you of your spiritual journey? How often are you cruising through life – maybe a little too fast – and suddenly your find yourself zooming right past the Lord in order to do your own thing?

In our hectic and frenzied lifestyles … are you guilty of ‘speeding’? We have our own agenda, our own events, our own vacation plans, our own activities, our own destinations … and we zoom right past the Lord!

In the New Testament, the book of 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 is a gentle reminder that all of us, at some point in our life, have been guilty of ‘speeding’. So, ask Jesus to help you realize that He is always beside you, seeing all that you do.

But – – here’s the bonus – – even if Jesus gives you a speeding ‘ticket’ … take comfort and have joy: HE HAS ALREADY PAID THE FINE IN FULL!!

“Don’t you know that those who do wrong will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshipers adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, abusers, swindlers (and ‘speeders’!) – – none of these will have a share in the Kingdom of God. There was a time when some of you were just like that, but now your sins have been washed away, and you have been set apart for God! You have been made right with God, because of what the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God have done for You.”

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11 – NLT)
