LUDLOW FALLS —The Miami County Sheriff’s Office crash investigators have completed the crash data retrieval (C.D.R.) from the on-board computer of the Chevrolet Cavalier that was involved in the crash with a Milton-Union school on Thursday, according to Chief Deputy Dave Duchak.
According to the data, the vehicle, traveling westbound on State Route 55, had reached a speed of 101 mph and was showing acceleration immediately prior to the crash, in which the driver, Taylor Dickey, 21, of Troy, went left of center and collided head-on with the eastbound bus.
Dickey died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The data also shows that no braking occurred prior to the crash and that the seat belt was not engaged.
Investigators have found that Dickey’s cell phone did not have any activity on it prior to the crash, Duchak said.
Investigators are continuing to create a timeline for Dickey’s whereabouts prior to the crash and interviewing those who were in contact with her. Beer cans were found at the scene of the accident and in the vehicle, according to reports, however, investigators are waiting on the results of the toxicology tests from the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, which likely won’t be complete for several weeks, he said.
Several students on the bus suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital or to the school to be treated for minor injuries following the accident. All students — middle through high school age — were released the same day.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed the car prior to the crash is asked to call Sgt. Todd Tennant at 937-440-6085, Ext. 7009.
