Franklin Monroe girls basketball team loses to Yellow Springs on senior night

PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe Lady Jets hosted Yellow Springs in their last regular season game at home while honoring their lone senior, Carrie Baker, on senior night.

Baker scored 14 points and had four triples on the night … but Franklin Monroe wasn’t able to get the win, falling 42-36 to the Bulldogs.

It was a game the Jets led after the first and third quarters only to see Yellow Springs finish strong in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

“Definitely not the way we wanted senior night to go. I felt like we were getting open looks just were not able to finish. If we connect on just a few opportunities the end result would have been in our favor,” Franklin Monroe girls basketball coach Abbey Moore said.

“We came out and played well early, and in the third quarter, due to our intensity on the defensive end … but then our defense let us down,” Moore said.

“We have to play hard every second of the game on defense. That’s the mindset we need to win games,” Moore said.

“We have to correct the breakdowns we had tonight before Saturday’s tournament game,” Moore added.

“Carrie Baker knocked down four threes, and I’m glad to see her have success shooting the ball and hope this helps her confidence for Saturday,” Moore said.

“I can’t say enough about the type or person Carrie is. She is a positive role model both on and off the court, and in the classroom. I just wished we could have got the win tonight for her,” Moore concluded.

Baker led with 14 points, and Kinsey Goins added 12.

The Jets will play in the first round of the Brookville sectional tournament at 12:30 p.m. Saturday where they take on Newton.
