It is time for hearts and flowers as Valentine’s Day approaches. One of the nicest valentine events is the American Legion auxiliary working with Tri-Village elementary students to make cards for our veterans at Dayton. Marian Eley and Joan Eley have assumed this project over the last few years. Cutting, pasting and drawing those special notes are fun for the Eley ladies as well as the students.
We can all help the veterans with gifts and cards of recognition for their service to our countries. The auxiliary will forward new clothing, socks and underwear with tags attached and in sealed packages as acceptable gifts. Also consider hygiene items like tooth brushes, deodorant, body wash, denture adhesive and cleaner. You can give in the name of a loved one who served.
The auxiliary can help you with expressing your feelings on Valentine’s Day. The annual Sweetheart Supper is set for Saturday. Stay in town on a cold winter evening and enjoy Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and pan gravy, buttered corn and bread and butter. You will have fruit cocktail for desert. This is $8 and includes carry out orders. Call 996-0095.
It is a busy time for the auxiliary and the members are getting set to select two Tri-Village girls to attend Girls State this summer. This annual event allows two female students to participate in a mock government operation during one week in Columbus. Participants play roles and learn the process of government. Girls need to be enrolled as juniors this year and this includes Tri-Village students at CTC. The deadline is Feb. 19. Girls can contact Annette Black, guidance counselor, or Gwen Tinkle, auxiliary member.
Plan ahead with the Legion’s spaghetti supper on April 30 and Poppy Days in May.
And a favorite event is the chicken dinner served on the first Saturday of the month.
Coming up: an early release from school on Feb .10. There will be no school on Feb. 15. You can plan ahead for teacher conferences. The days are February 23 and 25. This is the time to meet with your child’s teacher/teachers. It is scheduled from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Call the school to schedule a time.
Congrats this week to members of the Homecoming Court: Knox Morris, Brett Boyter, Brandon Peters, Elijah Fourman and Zackary Holsapple; and the ladies included Jenna Fisherback, Brooke Godown, Taylor Dubbs, Paige McAdams, and Shelbey Dowler. The new king and queen were Jenna Fisherback and Elijah Fourman.
