BROOKVILLE – Tri-Village broke open a close game midway through the third quarter with a 15-0 run and went on to claim a 60-39 win over Yellow Springs to advance to the sectional title game on Saturday.

Rachel Miller Led the Patriots with 25 points including seven 3-point baskets on 11 attempts.

The Tri-Village girls basketball team was very sluggish both defensively and offensively with the exception of Miller, who scored the first eight points.

When Elizabeth Smith knocked down a jumper at 1:08 Yellow Springs was within a point, 8-7, but Danika Mann and Emma Printz scored on back-to-back trips to close out the quarter, giving the Patriots a 12-7 lead.

Yellow Springs wouldn’t go away in part to Smith, who shredded the Patriot defense with two straight triples and a drive to the basket to tie the game at 17 with 3:30 to go in the second period.

TV regained the lead on two free throws and fielder by Mann to go back up 21-17, and then Printz drained a triple for good measure to end the first half with a 24-17 lead.

Tri-Village used a strong 20-point third quarter, including a 15-0 run led by Miller with two treys and eight points, to go up 44-23 at the end of the third frame.

In the final stanza Miller fired in two more trifectas as the Patriots went up 58-27 with four minutes to go before all the starters took a seat.

Yellow Springs continued to play hard over the last four minutes with Smith doing the damage … but the Patriots would hang on for a 60-39 win.

Elizabeth Smith of Yellow Springs was outstanding on the night with 30 points to lead all scorers in the game.

Miller led Tri-Village with six steals and 25 points while Printz added nine points, seven rebounds and three assists in support.

Tri-Village will play at 3 p.m. Saturday at Brookville against Newton for the sectional championship. This is a rematch for the two Cross County Conference rivals from earlier in the year in a game the Patriots won 51-43.
