VERSAILLES – Versailles senior Hannah Niekamp signed a letter of intent on Friday to bowl for the Wright State University Raiders.

“I picked WSU because it is well-known for its business program and has one of the top bowling programs in the nation,” Niekamp said.

Niekamp, the daughter of Doug and Sue Niekamp from North Star, plans to study accounting in college. She is looking forward to being close to home at a university that provides a small town atmosphere to receive an outstanding education and be a part of a bowling program that rates high nationally year after year.

“I’ve been able to witness Hannah grow as a leader and bowler over the last four years,” Versailles bowling coach Tyler Phlipot said. “She works hard all year long to achieve her goals. She will contribute to the WSU team not only with her bowling game but also with her positive attitude and competitive spirit.”

Wright State bowling coach Jeff Fleck witnessed Niekamp’s hard work one year ago at a youth travel league.

“I was immediately drawn to Hannah’s drive to be the best, her thirst for knowledge to get better and especially her fire on the lanes as a competitor,” Fleck said. “You simply can’t coach the desire to win.”

WSU is losing three seniors in 2016, allowing Niekamp the opportunity to step in as a freshman and compete. She has had opportunities to bowl with the current Raider bowlers and has fit in well.

“Everyone on the team loves Hannah’s personality,” Fleck said. “Hannah is sure to succeed in all her future endeavors.”
