GREENVILLE – Greenville High School honored its winter sports athletes for their accomplishments during the 2015-16 season on Tuesday.
For the girls basketball team Chloe McKinney earned the Wave Award, Payton Brandenburg was named most improved, Karsyn Shaffer earned the Coaches Award, Abby Miller earned the Sportsmanship Award, and Sara Wenning was named the Defensive Stopper.
Clay Guillozet earned the boys basketball team’s Wave Award as the MVP, Isaiah Gable was named the most improved, Travis Grooms earned the Coaches Award, Trae Wood was named Mr. Defense, and Isaiah Gable was recognized as having the best free throw percentage.
For the cheerleading squad Bailey Bennett earned the Sportsmanship Award, Serena Stastny earned the Coaches Award, and Serena Stastny earned the Excellence in Cheerleading Award.
William Nibert earned the wrestling team’s Tim Best Award as the MVP, William Nibert was recognized for having the most takedowns with 69, Christian Chalmers was named most improved, Austin Lacey was recognized for having the most pins with 20, Tani Mancillas earned the Coaches Award and Jacob Mikesell was named the Rookie/Freshman of the Year.
For the boys swimming team Jose’ Badell was named the Most Valuable Swimmer, Josh Smith earned the Coaches Award, Jacob Subler earned the Sportsmanship Award, and Zac Davis was named most improved.
In girls swimming Isabella Gable was named the Most Valuable Swimmer, Mckenna Crews earned the Coaches Award, Claire Cutaia earned the Sportsmanship Award, and Callie McMillin was named most improved.
Cullen Blinn was named the MVP of the boys bowling team, Jonathan Holman earned the Coaches Award, Tyler Netzley was named most improved, and Dylan Stepp earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Mackenzie Slade was named the MVP of the girls bowling team, Alejandra Segura earned the Coaches Award, Mariah Nicholas was named most improved, and Mariah Kolhorst earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Serena Stastny from the cheerleading squad, Chloe McKinney from the girls basketball team, Clay Guillozet from the boys basketball team, William Nibert from the wrestling team, Jose’ Badell from the boys swimming team, and Mariah Kohlhorst from the girls bowling team were honored as four-year award winners.
Clay Guillozet broke Greenville’s boys basketball records for most points in a career with 1,583, most assists in a career with 312 and most 3-pointers in a career with 127. Isaiah Gable set the Wave’s boys basketball record with 57 3-pointers in a season.
Jose’ Badell set the boys swimming team’s record in the 100 yard backstroke at 55.09.
Isabella Gable set Greenville girls swimming records in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.82, in the 100 yard freestyle at 55.05, in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:53.41 and in the 500 yard freestyle at 5:01.25.
