GETTYSBURG — During its regular session, the Darke County Board of Commissioners recently gave the go-ahead for a street reconstruction project for the Village of Gettysburg, Ohio.
The Board approved a letter of recommendation by Access Engineering Project Engineer Craig Knapke, awarding the project to PAB Construction of Coldwater. PAB was the low bidder of five bids submitted, totaling $708,002.
The project includes the reconstruction of Main Street from Clay Street east to U.S. Route 36. Improvements will include new waterline, storm sewer, catch basins, curbs and gutters, sidewalk, pavement surface and markings, among other miscellaneous improvements.
Knapke said that according to PAB, work is scheduled to commence in early July. Substantial completion of the project is scheduled for October 1, 2016, with final completion anticipated by October 15.
The three commissioners, Mike Stegall, Diane Delaplane and Mike Rhoades, signed off on the county portion of the project, committing $270,000 from a Neighborhood Revitalization Grant. The remainder of the project’s cost, $438,002, will be the responsibility of Gettysburg.
Jeff Marshall, the county’s Community Development/Grants Coordinator, said the village’s share will largely be paid through small government loans and grants through the Ohio Public Works Commission.
In other business, commissioners approved an appropriation of $6,735 to pay for the housing of prisoners at the Mercer County Jail and a fund transfer of $150,000 for the Versailles-Center Street Bridge project.
The Darke County Board of Commissioners meets every Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at 520 South Broadway in Greenville. Meetings are open to the public.
