COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The Ohio Secretary of State’s office says unofficial results show Tuesday’s voter turnout was the second highest for a primary election.

A spokesman for the secretary of state said Wednesday that the preliminary figures show 41.48 percent of Ohio’s registered voters cast ballots Tuesday. Spokesman Josh Eck says the highest primary turnout was 46.04 percent in the March 2008 presidential primary.

Eck says more than 41,900 absentee ballots and more than 68,000 provisional ballots in Tuesday’s election remained outstanding Wednesday and final results won’t be available until 10 days after the election.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik) won the Republican primary for president on Tuesday. Hillary Clinton won the Democratic primary.

The unofficial state results show 3,137,109 ballots cast in Tuesday’s primary. Ohio has 7,563,184 registered voters.
