GREENVILLE — An incident at a Greenville home briefly prompted a lockdown at Greenville Junior High School Thursday afternoon.

The incident, described as a “domestic disturbance,” occurred at a residence on Central Avenue near the school. The lockdown at the junior high lasted about one hour.

According to Greenville Chief of Police Dennis L. Butts, the department quickly notified the school as the incident was ongoing.

“We thought it prudent to advise them of it and request their assistance with the lockdown,” he said.

Butts declined further comment on the incident, stating the matter was “still under investigation.”

Two other Greenville schools — South Middle School and East Intermediate School — conducted internal lockdowns lasting approximately 15 minutes.

Greenville Schools Superintendent Doug Fries notified parents of the lockdowns through a One-Call notification. Students’ dismissal from school to buses and parents was not affected.
