DARKE COUNTY — There are new school requirements for students entering seventh grade and 12th grade next school year. In order to help children meet these requirements the Darke County Health Department is holding an immunization clinic on April 9 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The clinic will take place at Spirit Medical Transport and will operate as a drive-thru service (students will remain in the vehicle to receive the needed injection/s). Spirit Medical Transport is located at 5484 State Route 49 South Greenville, less than one mile south of the fairgrounds.
“When you arrive for the event please follow the posted signs for efficient traffic flow,” said organizers. “We ask that if you have health insurance they bring the insurance card and we will bill insurance, but what we receive from the insurance we will accept as payment in full. If you do not have health insurance please still plan to attend the event. There will not be a fee, there is No cost to you.
Current sixth-graders, prior to entering seventh grade will need a meningococcal vaccine in addition to a Tdap (Tetanus Diphtheria and Pertussis) vaccine. So they will receive two vaccines.
Current 11th-graders, prior to entering 12th grade will need a meningococcal vaccine (if they have already had a meningococcal vaccine ensure that they had it after the age of 16 because that is the new requirement). So they will receive one vaccine.
If parents need another adult to bring their child to this clinic it will be required that they present written permission. They must have a note signed by a parent giving the health department permission to administer vaccines. Written permission is required.
“We are anticipating another huge success at this clinic site,” said organizers. “No RSVP is necessary to participate. Just show up. Please note we will give vaccine until our supply runs out. If you have any questions related to Tdap and Meningitis Immunizations or this clinic please feel free to call (937) 548-4196 extension 202 for Dennis and extension 213 for Jennifer. See You on April 9.”
