Versailles softball team defeats Bradford for its 1st win

BRADFORD – The Versailles softball team held off a late rally by Bradford to defeat the Railroaders 10-9 on Friday.

Versailles jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first and four in the second. After Bradford scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, Versailles responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to lead 10-2. Bradford scored a single run in both the fourth and fifth innings and then scored five in the seventh but fell just short, losing by a single run.

Versailles had 11 hits and four errors in the game while Bradford had 10 hits and one error.

Sarah Gigandet led the Versailles offense by going 2-for-3 with a grand slam, a walk, four RBIs and two runs scored. Hailey McEldowney was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a RBI and a run scored. Kami McEldowney was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Brynna Blakeley went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Lauren Heitkamp was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Aimee Powell was 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Kristin Langston was 1-for-1 with a run scored. Ashlee Voisard was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Courtney McEldowney was hit by a pitch and scored a run.

For Bradford Olivia Hart was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Amanda Brewer went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, a RBI and two runs scored. Bailey Wysong went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Emily Huggins was 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Hannah Fout went 1-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored. Hailey Rosengarden and Tori Smith also had hits. Chelsea Gill walked once and scored two runs.

Powell pitched the complete game for Versailles to earn the win, allowing eight earned runs and one unearned run on 10 hits, four walks and six strikeouts.

For Bradford Smith pitched three innings and allowed six earned runs on seven hits, no walks, two hit batters and two strikeouts. Rosengarden pitched four innings and allowed one earned run and three unearned runs on four hits, four walks and two strikeouts.

Versailles improved to 1-3 with Friday’s win while Bradford fell to 3-1.
