GREENVILLE – The Greenville baseball team lost a pair of Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division games to Vandalia-Butler on Tuesday.
Butler won the first game of the doubleheader 6-0 and then won the second game 12-2 in a five-inning run rule.
In the first game Butler scored one run in the first inning, two in the second and three in the sixth while holding Greenville scoreless. The Aviators had five hits and two errors in the game while the Green Wave had two hits and three errors.
In the opening game Brandon Beyke and Tanner Ross both went 1-for-3 for Greenville.
Tyler Netzley pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Wave, allowing six earned runs on four hits, six walks and two strikeouts. Beyke pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed no runs on one hit, one walk and no strikeouts.
Greenville, which was the visiting team on the scoreboard in the second game of the doubleheader, struck first in the night cap. The Wave scored two runs in the top of the first but then saw Butler score two in the bottom half of the inning, one in the third, three in the fourth and six in the fifth.
Greenville had two hits and five errors in game two while Butler had seven hits and no errors.
Koom Hounshell went 1-for-2 with a run scored for Greenville, and Brayden York was 1-for-2 with a RBI. Ross also drove in a run while Kyle Mills scored a run for the Green Wave.
AJ Bowers pitched 4 1/3 innings in the game and allowed nine earned runs and three unearned runs on seven hits, no walks, four hit batters and four strikeouts. Peter Pandey came in to relieve Bowers and walked three batters.
Greenville fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the GWOC North with Tuesday’s losses. Butler improved to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the GWOC North.
