Ansonia softball team sweeps two doubleheaders

ANSONIA – The Ansonia softball team won a pair of doubleheaders this past weekend.

On Friday Ansonia hosted Twin Valley South in a doubleheader. The Tigers won the first game, a Cross County Conference game, 7-4.

Abby Helmke was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and scored once. Jailyn Thwaits doubled, walked twice and scored three runs.

Trinity Henderson was the winning pitcher, giving up three hits and striking out nine.

Ansonia won the second game, a non-league contest, 7-0.

Taylor Thwaits had a single, a double and scored twice. Shelby Hartzell had a single and two RBIs.

Hartzell also was the winning pitcher, giving up two hits and striking out six in a complete game effort.

On Saturday Ansonia swept Marion Local in a doubleheader in Maria Stein, winning the first game 12-3.

Ansonia had 15 hits in the game, led by Molly Walters with three hits including a single, double and grand slam with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Taylor Thwaits had a single, a double and two RBIs. Hartzell had two singles and two RBIs. Monica Stover had two singles and scored twice.

Hartzell was the winning pitcher. She gave up one hit and had 10 strikeouts.

Ansonia won the second game against Marion Local 6-3.

Henderson started for Ansonia and pitched four innings, leaving with the game tied 3-3. Hartzell finished off the game and gave up two hits and struck out two.

Offensively for the Tigers Neal had two singles, Walter had one single and one double, Jailyn Thwaits had three singles, Helmke had two singles, and Monica Stover had two singles.

Ansonia improved its record to 8-4 with the wins.
