Versailles softball loses to Troy, beats Russia

BRADFORD – The Versailles softball team went 1-1 in the Bradford Tournament on Saturday in Bradford.

Versailles lost its first game of the tournament 10-4 to Troy. After the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, the Trojans went up 2-1 with a single run in both the fourth and fifth innings. After Versailles regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, Troy scored eight runs in the sixth.

Versailles had five hits and four errors in the game while Troy had 11 hits and three errors.

Sarah Gigandet went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Aimee Powell was 1-for-3 with a home run, scored a run and drove in two runs. Kami McEldowney went 1-for-3, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Ashlee Voisard was 1-for-3, and Courtney McEldowney walked once and scored a run.

Lauren Heitkamp pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run and three unearned runs on nine hits, no walks, one hit batter and four strikeouts. Powell pitched a 1/3 of an inning and allowed five earned runs and one unearned run on two hits, three walks and no strikeouts.

After losing to Troy, Versailles rebounded to beat Russia 4-1. Russia struck first with a run in the bottom of the third, but Versailles responded with four runs in the fifth inning.

Versailles had eight hits and two errors in the game while Russia had seven hits and three errors.

Kristin Langston went 3-for-4 and scored a run. Gigandet was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and scored a run. Powell was 1-for-4 with a double.

Morgan Heitkamp went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Lauren Heitkamp also was 1-for-3. Kami McEldowney scored a run.

Lauren Heitkamp earned the win as she pitched the complete game, allowing an unearned run on seven hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

Versailles’ record moved to 5-5 with the win and loss.
