Mississinawa Valley baseball team run ruled by Covington

COVINGTON – The Mississinawa Valley baseball team lost 16-6 to Covington in a six-inning run rule in a Cross County Conference game on Monday.

After Covington took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Mississinawa Valley scored three in the top of the second to lead 3-2. Covington quickly regained the lead with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-3.

In the third MV scored one and Covington scored three to make it 10-4, and then Covington scored three in the fourth to make it 13-4. After MV scored a single run in both the fifth and sixth innings, Covington scored the game’s final three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Covington had 11 hits and six errors while Mississinawa Valley had eight hits and five errors.

Tyler Jenkinson went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run. Ethan Bowman was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run. Trent Collins was 1-for-2 and scored a run.

Andrew Johns and Colyn Nelson both were 1-for-3 and scored a run. Zach Dirmeyer and Levi Livingston both went 1-for-2. Kyler Guillozet drove in a run. Devan Rinderle scored a run.

Collins pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs and two unearned runs on four hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Nelson pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed four earned runs and two unearned runs on four hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. Guillozet pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed three unearned runs on three hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
