Versailles softball team defeats Marion Local

VERSAILLES – Versailles beat Marion Local 8-3 in a Midwest Athletic Conference softball game on Tuesday.

Versailles scored first with a run in the first inning and two in the second. After Marion tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third, Versailles took a 5-3 lead in the bottom half of the inning and added three insurance runs in the fifth.

Versailles had eight hits and two errors. Marion Local had nine hits and one error.

Kami McEldowney was 3-for-4 with a double, a RBI and two runs. Kristin Langston went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Sarah Gigandet was 2-for-3, was hit by a pitch, stole a base and drove in two runs.

Cori Lawrence went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs. Kate Stammen walked once, was hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored two runs. Hailey McEldowney walked twice and drove in a run.

Lauren Heitkamp pitched the complete game, allowing two earned runs and one unearned run on nine hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Versailles improved to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in the MAC with the win. Marion Local fell to 0-10 overall and 0-3 in the MAC.
