Bradford baseball team loses to Covington

COVINGTON – The Bradford baseball team lost 10-6 to Covington in a Cross County Conference game on Thursday.

Covington scored three runs in the first inning and one in the second to lead 4-0. After Bradford cut its deficit to 4-3 in the top of the third, Covington added one run in the bottom half of the inning.

Bradford tied the game at 5-5 in the fourth inning, but Covington regained the lead with four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. Bradford scored the game’s final run in the seventh inning.

Covington out-hit Bradford 15 to 10 in the game. Both teams committed two errors.

Andy Branson went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, two RBIs and two runs for Bradford. Bryson Canan was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Mason Justice went 1-for-3, stole two bases and scored two runs.

Clay Layman and Parker Smith both were 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run. Walker Branson was 1-for-4.

Andy Branson was charged with the loss as he pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing 10 earned runs on 15 hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Smith pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs on no hits, no walks and one strikeout.
