Versailles baseball team shuts out Delphos St. John’s

VERSAILLES – Versailles shut out Delphos St. John’s 3-0 in a Midwest Athletic Conference baseball game on Tuesday.

Versailles scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings while holding St. John’s scoreless. The Tigers had four hits and one error while the Blue Jays had six hits and one error.

Keaton McEldowney led the Versailles offense by going 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a RBI. Cole Niekamp was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a RBI. Kurtis Rutschilling also was 1-for-3. Jared Niekamp walked once, stole a base and scored a run. Collin Peters also scored a run.

Jacob Heitkamp earned the win as he pitched six innings, allowing no runs on five hits, no walks and five strikeouts. Austin Knapke picked up the save by pitching one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out one.

Versailles improved to 14-4 overall and 6-1 in the MAC with the win while St. John’s fell to 8-10 overall and 1-6 in the MAC.
